INSTRUMENTATION & TEST SYSTEMS
In order to expand our capabilities in turbine and seal testing, SDM opened the “Turbine Technology Center” in 2013. This facility houses state-of-the-art equipment and customized test rigs. The Turbine Technology Center is unique in Turkey, due to its ability to emulate actual steam turbine conditions for testing purposes. The 300m2 indoor facility has equipment for high rotational speed testing, as well as for generating high temperature and high pressure conditions from steam and air, as demanded by turbomachinery testing.
The test center is equipped with two compressors, which provide a large volume of air at pressures up to 15bar and 40bar individually, as well as a steam generator/superheater which provides steam at up to 2500kg/h at 80bar & 400oC) in addition to a number of customized test rigs.
Some of the customized test rigs designed and validated by SDM engineers that are available for testing are:
- High Frequency Wear Test Rig
- High Temperature Friction Test Rig
- Static Stiffness Test Rig
- Dynamic Leakage and Stiffness Test Rig
- Static Leakage Test Rig (max. pressure ~ 1000 psi, max. temperature ~ 400 C)
- Oxidation Tests
With our available test rigs, and the ability to design and manufacture any customized test rig, the test center and the SDM staff are capable of testing the durability, thermal and mechanical characteristics of sealing equipment under specific conditions, leakage rates, effective clearances, and wear rates.
SDM’s testing/capabilities are certainly not limited to sealing. We offer our services of conceptual/final design of custom testing equipment, analysis, manufacturing, and instrumentation assistance to the turbomachinery and sealing industries for any purpose.
